Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) or University of Malaysia, Terengganu is a public university in Malaysia that focuses on the fields of Natural Resources Management, Science and Technology not only in its courses offered but also in its research initiatives.
University of Malaysia, Terengganu – History
The school was formerly known as Kolej Universiti Sains dan Teknologi Malaysia (KUSTEM) or University College of Science and Technology Malaysia. Its roots can be traced in the establishment of the Centre for Fisheries and Marine Science in 1979. Over the years it expanded to become a center for oceanography and maritime research. In 1999 it was renamed to University Putra Malaysia Terengganu (UPMT). This was in time with the country’s need to have individuals skilled in the fields of maritime, science and technology. It was in 2007 that the school was renamed and got to be known as it is known today. The change was partly due to the desire to raise the bar of perception of being a school that is capable in providing quality higher learning.

The school operates under four faculties. These are: Fakulti Agroteknologi dan Sains Makanan (FASM) or Faculty of Agrotechnology and Food Science, Fakulti Pengurusan dan Ekonomi (FPE) or Faculty of Management and Economics, Fakulti Pengajian Maritim dan Sains Marin (FMSM) or Faculty of Maritime Studies and Marine Science, and Fakulti Sains dan Teknologi (FST) or Faculty of Science and Technology.

UMT is also known in its research initiatives and is even considered as one of the leading research institutes in the fields of Biodiversity Management and Preservation, Mangrove Research and Preservation, Tropical Aquaculture, Turtle Research and Preservation, and Marine Biotechnology.
