Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) or University of Malaysia, Sarawak is the eight university in Malaysia. The school has always focused not only the theoretical and practical side of learning but has also given importance in honing the students culturally.
University of Malaysia, Sarawak – History
The Faculty of Resource Science and Technology and Faculty of Social Sciences were the first faculties to be offered in UNIMAS in 1993. The students temporarily attended their classes in Kolej Latihan Telekom, Simpang Tiga, Kuching. It was in 1994, that the school resided in what is now considered as their East campus in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak.
Since its inception, the school has grown rapidly. Now it currently has 8 faculties and is expected to reach a student population of 15,000 by 2020.

The university faculties that are available are: Faculty of Applied & Creative Arts, Faculty of Cognitive Sciences & Human Development, Faculty of Computer Sc. & Information Technology, Faculty of Economics & Business, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, Faculty of Resource Science & Technology and Faculty of Social Science.
UNIMAS also has three institutions: Institute of Biodiversity & Environ. Conservation, Institute of Health and Community Medicine and Institute of East Asian Studies; and five centers: Centre for Student Development, Centre for Graduate Studies, Centre for Academic Information Services, Centre for Applied Learning and Multimedia, and Centre for Technology Transfer & Consultancy.

The university also takes pride in its research initiatives and it is even already recognized by international partners and stakeholders. Its strengths are in the areas of Biodiversity, ICT and Biotechnological research.
