University of Malaysia, Kelantan (UMK)

University of Malaysia, Kelantan or Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) is a one of Malaysia’s public schools. It is fairly a young school as it was just established in June 14, 2006. The first batch of students was enrolled in 2007 as the commencing semester was on June of that year. The total number of enrollees for the first school year was 298 and more than half of these were from outside of Kelantan.

Universiti Malaysia Kelantan – Establishment of UMK

The establishment of the school was first brought up during the 9MP or the Ninth Malaysian Plan which is put in order by the Finance Ministry of Malaysia and the Prime Minister Department’s Economic Planning Unit (EPU). This was to allocate budget to economic sectors in Malaysia for the years from 2006 to 2010. The plan to set up the school was announced in March 31, 2006 with the rest of the other sectors of 9MP. Then in June 14, 2006 the plan, including the setting up of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan was approved by the Cabinet of Malaysia.

Universiti Malaysia Kelantan – UMK Campus

While the campus is still being built in Bachok and Jeli, the school is temporarily residing in campuses in the towns of Pengkalan Chepa and Kota Bahr.

Universiti Malaysia Kelantan – Courses offered

Currently, UMK has 4 faculties: Faculty of Agro-industry & Natural Resources, Faculty of Entrepreneurship & Business, Faculty of Heritage & Creative Technology, and Centre for Language Studies & Human Development. The faculties offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Among the undergraduate degrees are Bio-industry Technology, Commerce, Accounting, Multimedia, Visual Communications and Philosophy.
