University Malaysia Pahang (UMP)

University Malaysia Pahang (UPM) or University of Malaysia, Pahang is the government university of Malaysia. Its former name was Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan dan Teknologi Malaysia or University College of Engineering & Technology Malaysia. Because of the public’s wrong impression of the school as that of having low standards due to its being a university college, it was changed to being a full university in 2006. The change of name brought a stop to that wrong impression and now the school is known for what it really is, providing good training to its students and developing much able graduates.

The school was established in February 16, 2002 to be a public technical university. Its specialization would be on engineering and technology. It was in October 8, 2006 that the school reached full university status.

UPM has 8 faculties and 17 departments or units. The faculties are: Faculty of Chemical & Natural Resources Engineering, Faculty of Civil & Earth Resources Engineering, Faculty of Computer Systems & Software Engineering, Faculty of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Faculty of Industrial Science & Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Center for Modern Language & Human Sciences, and Center for Technology Management.

University Malaysia Pahang – Facilities available

The university has dormitories that are known as Kolej Kediaman which literally means Residence College. It is divided into two. The Student Residence Complex 1 & 3 houses both male and female students. It has a total of 15 blocks in which 8 of these are for male students and the remaining 7 are for the female students. The second division, Student Residence Complex 2, is also known as the Kompleks Kediaman Gambang Perdana. These are exclusive for male students and are usually comprised of 2nd year and higher level students.

UPM also provides Internet Access to its students. In fact, it is the first school in the Asia Pacific to provide wireless Internet. Almost every corner of the school is Wi-Fi capable, and if you wish to have a more capable connection you may choose to subscribe to Malaysia’s premier ISP provider, TMNET, which can provide service at some key areas in the campus.
