International Islamic University Malaysia or IIUM is a public university in Malaysia. Its main campus is in Gombak, Selangor and its medical division is in Kuantan, Pahang. IIUM is funded by different governments that are part of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and its aim is to be the world’s leading Islam University. It is the first university in Malaysia and the first international university that has English as its primary medium of instruction.

The university was established in May 1983. IIUM is funded by eight governments: Malaysia, Turkey, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Egypt, Maldives, Libya, and Saudi Arabia. It is operated under a Board of Governors that have representatives from these eight countries and from the OIC.
The idea to establish an International Islamic University was first conceived by Malaysia’s fourth Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad. This was in 1982 during a meeting between the Prime Minister and the OIC. It was only under the Establishment Order given by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah.

IIUM offers undergraduate and postgraduate studies under 15 faculties or Kulliyyahs. Among these are: The Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Law, Kulliyyah of Engineering, Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge & Human Sciences, Kulliyyah of Science, Kulliyyah of Pharmacy, Kulliyah of Nursing, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environment Design, Kulliyyah of Medicine, Kulliyyah of Information & Communication Technology, Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences, and Kulliyyah of Dentistry.
International Islamic University Malaysia – Facilities available
Aside from the university’s modern academic facilities like fully-equipped library, lecture rooms and theatres, and laboratories, there are also several non-academic facilities available in the school. A mosque, clinic that is open 24 hours, multi-purpose hall, and sports complex are some of these.
